SUNDAY NIGHT

Now that's more like it. 4 - 0 on the day so far. Let's see if the success continues into night...

Bears/Eagles O/U @ 39

DeVoodoo's pick: UNDER
Look for both teams to play offense conservatively.

LAST MINUTE WEEK 4 ADDITIONS

Only a few minutes to kick off, so I'll be brief...

49ers  +4  Saints (H)

DeVoodoo's pick: Saints
The 'Niners have been playing beyond their means lately. Reality makes a return this week.

Cowboys/Redskins  O/U @ 46

DeVoodoo's pick: OVER

WEEK 4

Week 4 can't get here fast enough. So far, here's what I've got...

Browns  +3.5  Bengals (H)

DeVoodoo's pick: Browns
Both teams are desperate to get their first win of the season. I think the Browns have the better nucleus to get it done.

Texans  +7.5  Jaguars

DeVoodoo's pick: Texans
The Jags are coming off that big win in Indy, and they've got division rivals Pittsburgh the following week. Look for the Jags to overlook the Texans, who will only get better as the season goes on.

Vikings O/U @ 17 vs. Titans

DeVoodoo's pick: OVER
A more balanced offensive attack should produce points for the Vikes.

PUH-THETIC!!

What a humiliating Sunday. No fun at all. Let's hope that tonight's game helps me end the week on a high note. Here's the play:

I rarely like teasers, but I'm taking one today. I'm playing an 8-point teaser on the spread and O/U, thus my bet is as follows:

Jets EVEN Chargers (H)
O/U @ 53.5

DeVoodoo's pick: Chargers and the UNDER
The Chargers are in desperation mode, and so is DeVoodoo. We're in this one together!

WEEK 3 ADDITIONS

Two more games for ya. The first is another individual team O/U:

Lions  O/U  @ 21 vs. 49ers

DeVoodoo's pick: OVER
The Lions offense will show Martz they're fine without him.

Cowboys  -3  Packers (H)

DeVoodoo's pick: Packers
Plainly told, the Packers are good. They're also a home dog, and they're facing a Cowboys team coming off a short week.

WEEK 3

First things first — I'm an idiot. You might've noticed in the opening sentence of my WEEK 2 predictions that I said I liked seven underdogs, and then I only listed six games. I simply forgot to include the Eagles +7 against the Cowboys on MNF. Whoops. I played the Eagles, and they should've won the game outright. This week, I'll proof read my post. Totally.

Another interesting pattern has emerged in the plays I like this weekend. So far, I've placed bets on three one-team O/Us. They are as follows:

Cardinals O/U @ 20 vs. Redskins (H)

DeVoodoo's pick: OVER
I see no reason the Cardinals shouldn't put up at least three touchdowns here, even on the road.

Rams O/U @ 17 vs. Seahawks (H)

DeVoodoo's pick: OVER
If nothing else, the Rams need a fine offensive output to avoid going 0 - 3.

Steelers O/U @ 21 vs. Eagles

DeVoodoo's pick: OVER
A sluggish effort by the Eagles' defense is to be expected after playing their guts out just five days earlier against the Cowboys on MNF.

WEEK 2

I like seven games this week — they're all underdogs, and one O/U. Without further ado...

Patriots  +1.5  Jets (H)

DeVoodoo's pick: Patriots
This one should be interesting. I'm less intrigued by the injured Tom Brady angle as I am about the match-up between Favre and Belichick's defense. Look for Belichick to craft a scheme that will put tremendous pressure on Favre, forcing him to make quick decisions  — decisions that Favre won't be comfortable making because of his admitted grasp of only 75% of the Jets' playbook.

49ers  +7  Seahawks (H)

DeVoodoo's pick: 49ers
The Seahawks just aren't comfortable when they can't throw the ball. And with injuries to their receiving corps, who can they throw to?

Bills  +5.5  Jaguars (H)

DeVoodoo's pick: Bills
Speaking of injuries, Jacksonville has to be terrified by the condition of their O-line. Plus, I like the youthful, upstart passion the Bills are playing with.

Titans  +1  Bengals (H)

DeVoodoo's pick: Titans
I'm having visions of Kerry Collins playing one of those loose, relaxed back-up quarterback games where nobody really expects the guy to do much, so all he does is go out and throw for 300 yards.

Rams  +8.5  Giants (H)

DeVoodoo's pick: Rams
The Rams got destroyed last week. They're playing this week to not only avoid an 0 - 2 start, but for sheer pride. The Giants came out strong in the season opener to remind everyone they're still the world champs. Something tells me they'll have trouble getting as amp'd up for week two. Look for the Giants to eke out a win, but not cover the spread.

Ravens/Texans  O/U @ 37.5

DeVoodoo's pick: UNDER
Two weak offenses weakened further by the havoc of a hurricane.

Monday Night

Opening week is off to an inauspicious start. 2-3 so far. Let's see if the final game of the weekend can bring me back up to .500.

Broncos  -3  Raiders

DeVoodoo's pick: Broncos
Honestly, I'm not feeling great about this pick. It has the makings of a trap, but the systemic dysfunction that is the Raiders organization outweighs my concerns on the flip side.

WEEK 1 ADDITIONS

Real quick — I've got two more plays for you for opening week...

Redskins +4.5 Giants

DeVoodoo's pick: Redskins
That magic carpet ride the Giants were on late last season is ancient history.

Dolphins +3 Jets

DeVoodoo's pick: Dolphins
Everything about the Jets looks good on paper. The game isn't played on paper. Pennington will play loose and angry — a lethal combination. Favre will press and turn the ball over. The Dolphins should win outright.

WEEK 1

So far, I only see three games I'm definitely playing in week one (I'll let you know if anything changes):

Bengals - 1.5 Ravens

DeVoodoo's pick: Bengals

I grabbed this line as soon as I heard Flacco was getting his first career start at QB for the Ravens. I probably would have liked this line regardless of who was playing QB for the Ravens, but especially so when it's a rookie from Delaware making his first ever start in one week one of the season. Who knows if McGahee will be any help.

Moving on...

I enjoy the yin and yang of football — the contrast of offensive and defensive schemes. Offense is all about precision, timing, and coordination. Defense is about chaos. Generally speaking, it's easier to create chaos than order. That's why defenses tend to have an advantage over offenses during the first few weeks of the season — offenses need time to find their rhythm.

So every September I look forward to exploiting bloated O/U's based on last year's high-flying offensive averages. Here are two unders I'm taking:

Chiefs/Patriots UNDER @ 46

Cowboys/Browns UNDER @ 48.5

The Chiefs offense will be predictably terrible. It's the Patriots' offensive output that will surprise people. Issues along the offensive line will limit the Pats' aerial attack, even against a green Chiefs' secondary.

Both, the Cowboys' and Browns' offenses, will need to be in mid-season form to combine for seven or more touchdowns. I'm betting that at least one team will sputter out of the gates.
